Tuna Trigger...

February 17 2006 at 4:48 PM chuck

The availability of this unit and its good reviews encouraged me to get into Crosman guns, without it i would have remained a German and British gun snob. Just put my second Charlie bob sear on the mountain air 1377 20" barrel Roy sent. a trigger can't get much better than this, a soft gentle squeeze and the shot is launched. the scary part is that as light as it is, the pull can be evenly further lightened into pee-in-your-pantsville. Roy made this gun with his trigger spring and guide setup, and as good as it is, there is no comparison to the tuna sear. Thanks especially to Steve NC for the ingenuity in developing and making this unit.

Bob,

The sear is all I hoped for and then some. Seriously, on previous 1377 and 1322 guns I'd owned I was never happy with the trigger pull. I gave up air guns for a number of years because of the poor quality pull and let off. No matter what I did or had done there was never the feeling of "Yesss" that you get when things are just right.

With your sear I got that on the first shot and then when I got it dialed in just that bit it was sweeeet. I mean I shoot centre fire and rim fire guns that cost big time that while they have that yesss factor, I've paid and paid and paid to get there. This is just as good as they are and a hell of a lot cheaper and simpler and quicker to achieve.

The simplicity of it truly amazes me. I was a bit leery when I saw it on the web but hey anything is worth a try. When I opened the packet and felt it and looked at it. I thought hmmmm, like you said there isn’t even a pivot hole; something this simple can't work, can it?

Believe me it works! I am not the easiest person to please where firearms are concerned but the sear is as close to perfection as I've seen.

13XX/22XX Sears - Charlie Da Tuna - Praise
March 28 2005 at 12:46 PM

Wow!!!!

If you don't have one. Get one!! Get one for every gun that they will fit into that you own!!

My sear arrived last week while I was off caribou hunting. Wife picked it up at the post office and I didn't get around to the mail until Saturday and I didn't get the sear into the gun till yesterday.

Took me all of 15 minutes to take out the old sear and pop in the new one and get to shooting. Average people should be able to do it in a lot less time than that.

There is NO explaining the improvement in the trigger pull. You truly have to experience it to believe that a stock 1377 can feel that good. It is magic. That simple.

Be warned the first time you pick go to fire your gun with the new sear installed. What you felt before has no bearing anymore. The inital tension and take up you could or did apply before may well now fire your gun. Crisp, clean, light and oh so smooth. (Sounds like I should be writing a beer commercial.)

After a bit of testing I did take about a 1/4 turn out of the first stage and then tested some more. Then took about a 1/8 of a turn out of the second stage. SWEET!

I can no longer blame fliers on a poor trigger pull. Group size off hand has been cut at least by half. (I now blame all misses on the original Crosman sights)

Charlie Da Tuna you done good. Great actually, congrats on a great improvement. I'll definitely be ordering another one for the custom 1322, this sear was supposed to be going in it but it's staying put!

Observations -13/22xx sear:

My sear was one of the cracked ones - BUT - I never even noticed it until it was mentioned on the forum - I doubt it affects function one bit.

The sear looks to be a marvelous little piece of workmanship and construction - all in such a tiny little part. The sear drops right in - couldn't be easier to install - it's adjustable as you shoot the gun easily enough with the right side grip off. The sear is amazingly adjustable - many- many different "feels" available - excellent.

All I had available was guns with shorter springs - even though - the new sear works great - delivers a real two-stage felt trigger even with the short spring(s) - I say springs - because I swapped the sear into several guns just to check it out. I think it will work better with a stock spring - hard to believe - but the sear is so adjustable - you need the stronger spring to make the most of the adjustablility.

Messing with the adjustments it is possible to get a really light two-stage trigger - really shows improved results pistol shooting. Finally delivers a "real" trigger to these guns.

Really makes the "stock" 2240-style triggers seem like total "toy gun" trash after shooting my guns with the Charlie-Sear. You can get "used" to the Charlie Sear in a heartbeat - but as soon as you go back to a stock trigger after that - it becomes glaringly horrible and you wonder how you ever put up with it.

I tried installing the sear into a 1760 - and found it doesn't fit - unless I did something wrong.

The only bad part is that I only have one Sear - I need five or so. Any 13xx or 22xx I have without the sear - is now just sitting and waiting for a sear. I doubt any other money spent on these guns would make such an affordable improvement-to-dollar contribution to overall shootability.

I only tried the sear on gas guns - I will install the next one on a 1377 - with the complete lack of muzzle flip or recoil - the Charlie Sear in that gun should be really quite amazing. As the trigger in my 13xx is really the only bad part of the gun anymore. SO - when is the next shipment due?

For Charlie and the 13/22xx sears
March 3 2005 at 9:58 PM

Hey All,

Charlie's not just "da Tuna", he's "de Man!!" We've traded a couple emails about the sear and he's just a top-notch guy.

So, why should I keep a cracked sear? Why not just make him give me a new one? Two words, innovation and money.

Well, by my calculations, I suspect Charlie made less than $0 on this first batch. Maybe the next batch he'll break even and after that, it might be worth some pocket change. I'm pretty comfortable asserting Charlie's not going to afford that condo in the Bahamas any time soon from selling sears.

Second is innovation. How many guys do you see sticking their necks out and making new custom parts? Not many are going to risk it and many of those who once did, don't any more.

So, I'm not a nice guy. I'm really a selfish and calculating manipulator. I want Charlie to be successful and make it worth his while to continue to experiment and make cool new stuff for me... Er, us.

Kind regards

Mike

Charlie's new 13/22xx sear.....

Instructions..... I don't need no #$%^ instructions......

Got this a couple of days ago... finally got around to putting it in tonight. One of the most frustrating things I've done in a long time lol. The kit came with the sear, & some instructions. Toss the instructions, go to work. Charlie says 10 minutes to install.... I'd say more like 5. I did take some time to moly up things while I was in there. So, I put it all back together and..... I have a one stage trigger. A long one stage trigger. Ahhh... some adjustments needed.

Seeing the two adjustment screws, my lazer sharp mind knew just what to do. A turn on this one, one on that one, back this one out a bit..... etc. Now I have a two stage trigger with a long first stage & a 15 pound second stage. More fiddling. Back to a one stage trigger. An hour of this.
I had to walk away for a while.

Where are those instructions anyway?

Charlie clearly says what screw does what, & to make adjustments no more than 1/8 turn at a time. So I did. 1/8 at a time. Still not working right. I gotta take the side plate off & see just what's going on in there.

Seems I have one screw turned in way to far, the other out so far it's not doing anything. Jeezus. Ok, put the screws back to about where they look like they should be.... but I'm just going to put the side plate back on & hold it there with my thumb while I adjust, 'case I have to take it off again.

Now, FOLLOWING the instructions, a little tweak here, a little there.... perfect. A true 2 stage trigger, light on the first stage with a definite stop against the second stage, and (important to my style of shooting), almost no overtravel. Absolutely amazing.

So, put the side plate screws back in, give it one more test fire..... I have a one stage trigger again. DOH! This time, 1/8 at a time LIKE IT SAYS IN THE INSTRUCTIONS I make a couple of little adjustments, & it's back to perfect. I dry fired it 50 times or so to see if it would change.... not at all.

If you can use one..... get one.

13/22xx and SSP 250 sears !!
March 2 2005 at 5:49 PM

I received my Charlie da Tuna 13/22xx 2 stage sears a couple of days ago and installed one of them on my 2240, first impression was WOW !, second, and as a surprise, my groups were much better, I guess the pre-sear swapped trigger affected my gun shooting more than I thought due to more effort ?, all the same I attributed my less than great groupings to excessive muzzle flip (no that there isn't any flip) however once I replaced the stock sear...voila , my grouping improved dramatically, you gurus tell me.

The preset settings although good were not perfect or should I say "to my liking", I proceeded to further adjust the sear's screws and I like it a lot better, the second stage, or creep, perhaps should be a little shorter but I might have run out of range, I'll keep experimenting.
I also have a couple of SSP 250's and although I was told Charlie's sears wouldn't work on them, I discovered that in fact they wouldn't, ah ,but wait a moment, they wouldn't work with the SSP's trigger, however if I substituted the SSP's trigger for that of my 2240 then the sear would work, I like the gold colored trigger from the 22xx series better anyway, so now I've got to find me a couple of triggers and in the process perhaps ad a widening shoe to the trigger blade since it's a bit narrower than that of the SSP 250's.

Lets see - Mac-1 vs. SuperSear....
March 2 2005 at 10:46 AM

...SO I can order a drop-in Sear from Charlie - takes ten minutes to install - costs about $20 - turns the twangy- harsh, mushy Benji trigger into a clean two-stage - with a nice light let-off (optional polishing makes it lighter still) - and the scatter-gun is transformed into an excellent bulls-eye shooter.....Or ...I can send/take my gun or trigger parts to Mac-1, endure his evil customer service nature, wait about 6 months, listen to him tell me I don't know what I want or need, pay God-knows-what for his "service" - and then I'll have a trigger in my airgun that firearm shooters might like......Hmmmmmm. That’s not a tough call. - HV

Trigger heaven March 1 2005

Your sear is wonderful !! Installed, did some adjustment and ..voila, perfect.
By the way your sear would work on the SSP 250 if the trigger is changed to that of a 2240 (the SSP 250 trigger is somewhat different and obstructs the sear, but when I put my 2240's trigger then it worked).
